Began in 1997 by a group of Volkswagen enthusiasts,VWvortex is a web site maintained by and for people interested in Volkswagen Group and its products. The site offers forums, news, encyclopedic information categorized under "Features", and image collections.

VWvortex is owned by Vortex Media Group. Vortex Media Group is a publishing group of automotive related enthusiast websites. Each site provides editorial coverage and news, and also active discussion forums and commerce with various vendor and advertising relationships. Their sites include: Motive Magazine (a general automotive industry magazine), Fourtitude (an Audi enthusiast website), MWerks (a BMW enthusiast website), Subdriven (a Subaru enthusiast website), Swedespeed (a Volvo enthusiast website), tripleZoom (a Mazda enthusiast website), and SpeedArena (an auto racing website, with several categories, from pro to amateur racing, rallying, drag racing, autocross, touring car racing, and open wheel racing).
