History

2005

Midway through the 2005 season, the Pittsburgh Maulers are disbanded. Ray Hollinger and Joe Graff are moved from the Maulers roster to the Pittsburgh Pythons. Together with Mike Martin, Brian Strom, Greg Wittmer, and Denny Schlegel of the Pythons, they will form the eventual nucleus of the 2006 Bulldogs roster.

2006

Joe Graff and Ray Hollinger form the Pittsburgh Bulldogs, bringing along fellow Pythons, Mike Martin, Brian Strom, Greg Wittmer, and Denny Schlegel, with Graff assuming the managerial duties. The rest of the roster is rounded out with many key free agent pickups, including 2006 NABA All Stars: Rick Beyer, Ryan Joseph, Doug Schreiber, and Bill Jacobs.

The Bulldogs finish 11 and 8 in their inaugural year, finishing strong in the regular season, and then bowing out in the first round of the playoffs to the Pittsburgh Black Sox. The Black Sox would go on to win the championship in 2006.

2007

The Bulldogs opened the 2007 season with high expectations. While losing Brian Strom from the roster (Strom was able to play while in town on a short summer visit), and Ray Hollinger and Ryan Joseph for parts of the season, they added free agents Mike De Lodovico, Frank Palmer, Frank Coleman, and Bill Boyd. The Bulldogs looked to build on their success from the previous season, and that they did. As co-managers, Vinny Gala and Scott Kramer lead the team to an 18-6 regular season record, earning the Bulldogs a first round bye in the playoffs. However, the Bulldogs bats hit the skids as they scored just two runs in the Divisional Championship series. After leading the league in runs scored during the regular season, the Bulldogs were shut down by the young Matadors and eliminated from the playoffs.

On the bright side, the Bulldogs improved on their regular season record from last year and became one of the teams to beat in the tough Allegheny Division. Highlights from the season included taking 2 of 3 games from the defending champion Pittsburgh Black Sox and sweeping the season series from the rival Pittsburgh Warriors. They also sent six players to the mid season All-Star game: Rick Beyer SS, Mike Martin OF, Vinny Gala 1B, Mike De Lodovico OF, Bill Jacobs OF, and Doug Schreiber P.
