Dr. Fereshteh "Faye" Haeri Darya is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) serving clients with variety of mental health, relationship, and emotional issues in the Washington DC metropolitan area.

My Philosophy

I am a strong proponent of health-oriented and positive psychology that emphasizes what is right with people rather than what is wrong with them. My counseling work is based on the integrative approach to psychotherapy that is best characterized as going beyond and across the confines of any single orientation. I draw from different theories to form a comprehensive view of all the complexities of human conditions and emotions. The reason to do this is because no one theory has all the answers that could effectively work with every individual and situation.

In my practice I incorporate key principles and concepts from the following theoretical orientations:

  • Existential-humanistic approach values human potential and inner resources, that drive one’s toward self-development. Through personal power, people have enormous capacity to perceive the reality of their situation and find sense of meaning in life.
  • Cognitive-Behavioral therapy helps a person to recognize his or her negative thought/behavior patterns and replace them with positive ones.
  • Experiential approach focuses on the individual’s experiences in the present moment, the environment, the social context, and self-regulating adjustment that people need to make as a result of their situation.
  • Interpersonal therapy is based on the view that interpersonal relations can be improved by altering communication patterns and how people relate to each other.

Individual, Couple, and Family Counseling

It is a special privilege to work with people who desire to thrive in their relationship by showing inner courage and engaging in life enhancing activity rather than to remain inactive. You may be thinking about counseling for yourself, your child, your family member, or someone you love and care about. You may have reached this point of searching for help because of feeling of being overwhelmed, frustrated, “burned out”, distressed, afraid, or even hopeless. You are pondering on the feeling that something may be wrong either within you or in your outside world. You are searching for answers and you may have tried different solutions that you could think about. And, still find nothing is working. There are many circumstances that might lead people to seek the confidential support of a professional counselor. Therapy sessions provide invaluable opportunity for those who are committed and want to improve their life situation. Motivated individuals can benefit from therapy and achieve tangible results by strengthening their relationship, deepening their trust, and learning how to better nurture and enjoy their life.
