Sun Peaks Resortis a year round ski resortlocated approximately 50 km (a 45 minute drive) northeast of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. The village is surrounded by three mountains: Tod Mountain, Mount Morrisey, and Sundance Mountain. BC winter activities include: downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing holidays and snowshoeing. BC summer activities include: downhill mountain biking, bc hiking trails and golf vacations. Sun Peaks Resort also attracts foodies with a wide selection of restaurants and annual food and wine festivals.

History

In 1961, Sun Peaks Resort, then known as Tod Mountain, began with a single chairlift, the Burfield. The Burfield was at the time the longest chairlift in North America! At the time there were very few amenities. The current log-structure administrative building at the foot of the Burfield chair was Tod Mountain's restaurant, lodge, and mountain ticket sales centre all in one. In 1968 the Burfield chairlift was damaged by fire and did not reopen until December 1970.

Tod Mountain was bought by Nippon Cable Company Ltd. of Tokyo in 1992. Since this time Ecosign Mountain Resort Planners Ltd. have been the prime consultant and project planners for the transformation of Tod Mountain Ski Area into Sun Peaks Resort.

Soon after the new ownership, new runs were built in addition to three new lifts (2 quads), and new facilities and infrastructure. The first nine hole of the golf course were also built and the final nine were completed in 2005. Also added were the village's day lodge, a snowboard park, a 35 million-gallon snowmaking reservoir, a building and facilities for the Snowsports School, and even a whole new mountain - Mount Morrissey.

In 2006 a new quad lift “the Elevation” was added to Sun Peaks Resort, along with new runs on the area known as Orient Ridge. Each year the Austrian National Ski team trains at Sun Peaks on the Nancy Greene Race Centre.
